    About the USD/TRY rate

Turkey has a floating exchange rate: the lira’s value is set by supply and demand rather than fixed by the central bank. The main drivers are the gap between Turkish and US inflation, the central bank’s policy rate, the current-account balance and foreign capital flows.

The prices on this page come from the Istanbul free market. Banks add their own margin, and cash (banknote) exchange usually has a wider spread than account transfers. At weekends global currency markets are closed, so the last closing price is shown.

    Frequently asked questions

How much is 1 US dollar in Turkish lira today?

At the latest update, 1 USD sells for about 50.0080 TRY on the Istanbul free market. The rate on this page refreshes every second while markets are open.

What is the Kapalıçarşı (Grand Bazaar) rate?

It is the free-market price formed by currency exchange offices and gold wholesalers in Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar. Jewellers and exchange offices across Turkey use it as their reference, so it is closer to what you pay in cash than the once-a-day central bank rate.

How is it different from the Central Bank (TCMB) rate?

The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye publishes indicative rates once every business day at 15:30 Istanbul time. Those are used for taxes, customs and contracts. The free-market rate moves all day and can differ from the TCMB rate, especially after 15:30.

What do the buy and sell prices mean?

Buy is what an exchange office pays you when you sell dollars; sell is what you pay when you buy dollars. The gap (spread) is the dealer’s margin. Banks and airport exchange desks usually apply a wider spread, and spreads widen at weekends.

Where is the best place to exchange dollars in Turkey?

Rates vary between banks, exchange offices (döviz bürosu) and airports. Comparing the buy and sell prices of a few places against the free-market rate on this page shows how wide each spread is. This page gives market information only and is not financial advice.
