    About gold prices in Turkey

Gold is the most popular savings asset in Turkey. Prices are quoted per gram for bars and jewellery, and per piece for state-minted coins such as the quarter (çeyrek), half (yarım), full (tam) and Republic (Cumhuriyet) coins. The reference is the wholesale market in Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar.

Because the gram price is the dollar gold price converted into lira, it rises both when world gold prices go up and when the lira weakens. Banks also sell “account gold” at their own buy and sell prices, usually with a wider spread than the Grand Bazaar.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the price of 1 gram of gold in Turkey today?

At the latest update, 1 gram of 24-karat gold sells for about 6,335.32 TRY in the Istanbul Grand Bazaar. A quarter coin (çeyrek altın) sells for about 10,357.00 TRY. Prices refresh every second while markets are open.

What is a çeyrek (quarter) gold coin?

Çeyrek altın is the most popular Turkish gold coin: 22 karat, 1.75 grams, minted by the state mint. It is a traditional wedding and birth gift. Half (yarım), full (tam) and Republic (Cumhuriyet or Ata) coins are larger versions.

Is gold cheaper in Turkey than abroad?

The base gram price follows the international gold price converted at the dollar rate, so it is close to world prices. Jewellery is a different story: shops add a workmanship fee (işçilik), which is often lower in Turkey than in Europe, but always compare the per-gram price against this page.

Why do jewellers charge more than the price on this page?

These are Grand Bazaar wholesale prices. Retail jewellers add a margin and, for bracelets and jewellery, a workmanship fee. When you sell gold back, you receive the buy price, which is lower than the sell price.

How is the Turkish gram gold price calculated?

Roughly: the gold spot price in US dollars per troy ounce, divided by 31.1035 grams, multiplied by the USD/TRY rate. Local supply and demand can add a small premium or discount.
