    About the EUR/TRY rate

The euro is Turkey’s second most traded foreign currency, used for trade with the EU, tourism and savings. Its lira price follows two things at once: the lira’s value against the US dollar, and the euro’s value against the dollar on global markets. EUR/USD is currently about 1.1171.

The prices on this page come from the Istanbul free market. Banks add their own margin, and cash exchange usually has a wider spread than account transfers. At weekends global currency markets are closed, so the last closing price is shown.

    Frequently asked questions

How much is 1 euro in Turkish lira today?

At the latest update, 1 EUR sells for about 55.8800 TRY on the Istanbul free market. The rate on this page refreshes every second while markets are open.

Why does the euro move differently from the dollar against the lira?

The EUR/TRY rate is roughly the USD/TRY rate multiplied by the EUR/USD rate (currently about 1.1171). When the euro strengthens against the dollar, EUR/TRY rises faster than USD/TRY, and the other way round.

Is it better to bring euros or dollars to Turkey?

Both are widely accepted at exchange offices (döviz bürosu) across Turkey, and spreads on the two are similar in the Grand Bazaar. What matters more is where you exchange: banks and airport desks usually apply a wider spread than city exchange offices.

What do the buy and sell prices mean?

Buy is what an exchange office pays you when you sell euros; sell is what you pay when you buy euros. The gap (spread) is the dealer’s margin, and it usually widens at weekends.

Is this the official Central Bank rate?

No. This is the free-market rate. The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (TCMB) publishes indicative rates once every business day at 15:30 Istanbul time; those are used for taxes, customs and contracts.
